OCEANA

She came to the beach to sip the sand
And drink of the water's edge
She carried despair and brought it there
In the bag she left on a ledge

She wandered up and down the shore
And danced upon the stone
But never spoke to anyone -
Preferred to be alone

Some watched her reach for flying birds
And wave to passing ships
Her eyes as distant as Arctic ice
And blue as frozen lips

Then as each turned in their own way
And homeward bound were set
She waded into the outgoing tide
Her journey unfinished yet

Slowly she slipped through salted waves
To swim with silver fish
Her long hair glowed as the seaweed flowed
And granted her last wish
